Information And Communications University Hosts First Inauguration Ceremony.

The Information and Communications University (ICU) held its first inauguration ceremony on February 7th, 2025, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s history.

Dr. Chisala, the guest of honor for the event, began his speech by acknowledging the presence of all delegates and students in attendance. He emphasized the importance of leadership, stating, “Be a leader of inspiration today, as it will shape your future and the future of the next generations.”

The ceremony continued with Electoral Commission of ICU Secretary General Albert Chikumbi, who introduced the new Electoral Commission of ICU, outlining the positions of the members and acknowledging the invited guests present to greet the audience.

Electoral Commission Chairperson Kabika Mark introduced the incoming student union executive. He encouraged the newly elected leaders to face the people who had voted for them, and later instructed them to stand before the Electoral Commission and the outgoing leaders for the swearing-in ceremony.

Kabika then directed the president-elect to hold the Bible and repeat the oath of office. Once the oath was taken, Kabika proudly presented the official certificate to the new president, officially recognizing them as the leaders of ICU.

As the ceremony drew to a close, Kabika delivered an apology on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, who was initially scheduled to be the guest of honor. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, Dr. Chisala had stepped in as the distinguished guest.

In his remarks, ICU Student Union President Gift Mushiba expressed gratitude to all who attended the event. He specifically thanked the National Council of Universities for sending delegates from Evelyn Horn College, Cavendish University, NIPA, ZICAS, and the ZATIS. He also acknowledged the absence of UNZASU President and Chalimbana University President, who were unable to attend.

Mushiba went on to express appreciation for the support received during his campaign. “I am thankful to Dr. Chisala, my fellow students, the outgoing president, and my campaign managers,” he said. “I promise you that we will deliver excellence in our leadership.”

The inaugural ceremony concluded with a sense of unity and excitement as the ICU community looked forward to a promising future under the leadership of the new student union executives.
