ICU ASM Programme Begins with Interactive Rocks and Minerals Session
The Information and Communications University (ICU) officially launched its Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining (ASM) training programme with an engaging introductory session on rocks and minerals.
The opening lesson introduced students to the basic concepts of rocks, including their formation processes and methods of identifying different rock types. This foundational knowledge was aimed at preparing learners for more advanced mining studies under the ASM programme.
During the session, emphasis was placed on the significance of various rocks within Zambia’s mining industry. Students were guided to understand how theoretical knowledge connects to real mining activities taking place across the country. The lesson also covered mineral identification, enabling participants to gain a clearer understanding of minerals found within different rock formations.
The class was marked by active participation, with students asking questions, sharing ideas, and taking comprehensive notes. Interactive discussions, including a light moment on identifying the hardest rock, contributed to a lively and memorable learning environment.
The ASM training programme is scheduled to continue over the next two weeks, during which students are expected to acquire deeper knowledge and practical skills essential to artisanal and small-scale mining.
