GRADE 12 PUPIL JAILED FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING IN KABWE.
A 25-year-old Grade 12 pupil of Shantumbu Secondary School in Kafue District has been convicted by the Kabwe Magistrate Court for drug trafficking and sentenced to a one-year suspended jail term.
Appearing before Resident Magistrate Liswaniso Wamundila was Jackson Mbeba, who faced one count of trafficking in psychotropic substances.
The court heard that on December 28, 2025, in Kabwe District, Mbeba unlawfully trafficked in psychotropic substances, namely 12 grams of marijuana, a herbal product of Cannabis sativa.
When the matter came up for the reading of facts and judgment, Mbeba pleaded guilty and admitted the charge.
Brief facts presented before court were that Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) officers in Kabwe received information that Mbeba was dealing in illicit drugs in the Kasavasa area of Kabwe District. Acting on the information, a team of four DEC officers conducted an operation at around 02:00 hours and proceeded to Mbeba’s residence.
Upon arrival, the officers identified themselves and explained the purpose of their visit. Mbeba consented to a search of his house, which led to the discovery of a small sachet of suspected marijuana found in a pair of trousers hanging beside his bed.
In passing judgment, Magistrate Wamundila noted that Mbeba did not waste the court’s time as he readily admitted the offence. The magistrate further considered that Mbeba was a first-time offender and, on that basis, exercised maximum leniency by imposing a one-year suspended sentence.
