DEC Raises Awareness On Drug And Substance Abuse In Mpongwe

The Drug Enforcement Commission -DEC- has intensified community awareness on the dangers and effects of drug and substance abuse in Mpongwe District on the Copperbelt Province.

The Commission, through its Education and Counselling Department -ECD-, participated in the Lesa Nkushe Unjikatile Ubuta Bwanji Traditional Ceremony held under the leadership of Her Royal Highness, Chieftainess Lesa of the Ubulima people of Lamba land.

The ceremony was graced by Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Lawrenca Mwanza, alongside traditional leaders, community representatives and other distinguished guests.

As part of its community engagement, the DEC exhibited its services and conducted an awareness talk focusing on the dangers and effects of drug and substance use.

The engagement reached more than ten-thousand people in attendance and provided an opportunity for the Commission to interact directly with community members, share information on drug use prevention and highlight the services available through the DEC.

Speaking during the engagement, the Commission said, “The Commission remains committed to taking drug and substance use prevention messages closer to communities and working with traditional and community leaders to build safer and healthier communities for all.”

The DEC says continued engagement with communities and traditional leaders is important in strengthening awareness and prevention efforts against drug and substance abuse.
