COPPERBELT POLICE RECOVER STOLEN PROPERTY, ARREST 1,200 SUSPECTS DURING FESTIVE SEASON IN KITWE
Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Mwala Yuyi has revealed that about 1,200 suspects were arrested for various criminal offences in Kitwe District during the 2025 festive season.
Mr. Yuyi said the arrests were made between December 24, 2025, and January 2, 2026, as part of intensified police operations aimed at maintaining law and order during the holiday period.
He disclosed this in an interview at Kitwe Central Police Station, where police exhibited a number of items suspected to have been stolen and later recovered during the operations.
Mr. Yuyi reaffirmed the Zambia Police Service’s commitment to restoring and maintaining peace and security in Kitwe District, warning individuals involved in criminal activities to desist or face the full force of the law.
The recovered property includes television sets, mattresses, solar panels, gas stoves, mobile phones, gaming machines, as well as three motor vehicles.
The Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer noted that the recoveries come against a backdrop of increased criminal activity on the Copperbelt, prompting police across the province to intensify patrols and intelligence-led operations.
Meanwhile, Mr. Yuyi announced that police are expected to display what he described as a major recovery made in Chingola District, which will be presented to the media tomorrow.
He assured members of the public that police will continue working tirelessly to curb crime and ensure the safety of lives and property across the province.
