BUS DRIVER KILLED IN LUSAKA–KAFUE ROAD CRASH.
The Zambia Police Service in Chilanga District has recorded a fatal road traffic accident in which a bus driver died after a public service bus collided with a truck and trailer along Lusaka–Kafue Road near Apex Filling Station in Mapepe area around 04:00 hours on January 27, 2026.
Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi says the accident involved a Scania Marcopolo bus, registration number AJF 4615 ZM, belonging to Jonda Bus Company and driven by Brian Banda, aged 44, of Garden Chilulu Compound in Lusaka, and a Dongfeng truck and trailer, registration number BLC 5152 ZM, driven by Joseph Mwenda, aged 34, of Maamba District. Preliminary investigations indicate that the truck failed to give way while joining the main road, resulting in a collision.
Mr. Chilabi says the bus driver sustained multiple injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, while all 16 passengers on board escaped without injuries. He adds that the truck driver, who fled the scene, later handed himself over to Chilanga Police Station and is currently in custody, as the body of the deceased has been deposited at the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.
