Body of Unidentified Man Discovered in Sewer Line in Ndola

The body of an unidentified man has been discovered in a sewer line in Ndola.

The body, believed to have been dumped in a 1.5-meter-deep manhole by suspected criminals, was found yesterday by Isaac Phiri, an excavator operator at Kafubu Water and Sewerage Company, who was unblocking the line.

Mr Phiri was working on a sewer system that had been blocked for some time when he came across the decomposed remains in a manhole connecting Chinika Road to Chimwemwe Road in the Ndola Central Business District.

Upon retrieving the body, Mr Phiri discovered that only the bottom half was intact.

Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Pethias Siandenge later confirmed the remains were those of a suspected male.

“The police visited the scene and found the lower half of a decomposed human body, along with some ribs. Upon inspection, the body was found tied. It is suspected that the person was murdered and dumped in the sewer line some time ago, as the system is large enough to carry a body from one point to another,” Mr Siandenge said.

He added that a white Samsung phone was found in one of the pockets and has been secured to assist in identifying the victim.

Mr Siandenge said the remains have since been taken to Kawama Graveyard for burial.

He added that the burial site has been marked to allow for a postmortem to be conducted once the victim’s relatives are identified.
