AFRICAN CAPITAL MARKETS LIMITING FIRMS

Minister of Finance Margaret Mwanakatwe says the lack of local capital markets on the continent has constrained corporate entities from exploiting expansion opportunities.
Mrs. Mwanakatwe says lack of capital markets has resulted in African firms requiring growth finance from outside the continent which is often not available from domestic sources.
The Minister was speaking at the 2018 annual workshop of the African financial market’s initiative of the African Development Bank.
She said the lack of market liquidity also contributes to limiting the amount of new funding that can be attracted, domestically and internationally, into African local bond markets.
