13 000 Ebola cases confirmed

8386 people had died of Ebola out of 13 430 laboratory confirmed cases in nine affected countries by January 12 this year.

According to the site www.gov/vhf/ebola/outbreaks/2014-west-africa/case-counts.html whose case counts had been updated in conjunction with the World Health Organization updates based on information reported by the ministries of health ,a total of 21 206 cases were reported in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Mali, United Kingdom, Nigeria, Senegal, Spain and the United States of America.

In tabular form, the site shows that Sierra Leone lost 3049, Liberia 3515 and Guinea 1807 lives to Ebola.

It also shows that six Malians and no British died. It further says 8 Nigerians, no Senegalese ,no Spanish and one American had died.

The site implies that out of 13430 laboratory confirmed cases , 5054 survived and explains that Ebola had ended in Spain, Senegal, Nigeria and the USA.

“A national Ebola Virus Disease(EVD) outbreak is considered to be over when 42 days(double the 21 –day incubation period of the Ebola virus) has elapsed since the last patient in isolation became laboratory negative for EVD,” the site reads.
