Zambia Army Mourns Two Dedicated Soldiers

The Zambia Army has announced the passing of Warrant Officer Class Two (WOII) Kunda Lewis and Staff Sergeant (Ssgt) Nyirenda Ndabanenge (Rtd), both of whom died on 9 April 2025.

According to a statement issued by Zambia Army Commander, Lieutenant General Geoffrey Choongo Zyeele, the entire Army community is deeply saddened by the loss of the two gallant servicemen who served the nation with commitment and distinction.

WOII Kunda was enlisted into the Zambia Army on 27 November 1994 and underwent his basic military training at Lukanga Recruit Training Centre. He was later posted to 3 Infantry Battalion where he served until his demise. He will be laid to rest on Saturday, 12 April 2025, at St Mary’s Military burial site. He is survived by a wife and four children.

Ssgt Nyirenda was enlisted on 27 July 1998 and trained at Munkulungwe Recruit Training Centre. He served in various capacities and retired from active service on 31 May 2020, with 1 Engineer Regiment being his last posting. He too is survived by a wife and four children. His burial will take place on Saturday, 12 April 2025, in Mufulira.

Commander Zyeele conveyed heartfelt condolences on behalf of Officers, Soldiers, Civilian Staff and the broader Army fraternity, describing the late officers as dedicated and disciplined members of the service whose contributions to the military will be remembered with honour.
