Bank Of Zambia Unviels New K100 And K50 Heritage Series Banknotes

The Bank of Zambia has commenced the issuance of new K100 and K50 banknotes under the Heritage Series, completing the rollout of the country’s latest currency notes.
Assistant Director for Communications, Besnat Mwanza, said the new notes feature advanced security elements, cultural motifs, and designs that reflect Zambia’s rich heritage.
“They are designed to improve transaction security, enhance public confidence in the monetary system, and provide a symbol of national pride,” Ms Mwanza stated.
The notes showcase national symbols, including the African Fish Eagle, six major waterfalls, and raised ink patterns to aid visually impaired users.
Ms Mwanza disclosed that the Bank has already withdrawn K9.9 billion worth of old notes, representing 44.3 percent of those previously in circulation. The old K100 and K50 notes will soon cease to be legal tender, and members of the public are urged to exchange them.
To ease the transition, the Bank has launched the Zambian Banknotes mobile application, available on Google Play and the iOS App Store. The app offers interactive visuals and detailed explanations of the new security features to help users identify genuine notes and guard against counterfeits.
Ms Mwanza further encouraged the public to familiarise themselves with the new banknotes and report any suspicious activities, stressing that the initiative seeks to strengthen confidence in the monetary system while promoting a cashless economy.
