Zambia Records 20 New Cholera Cases in 24 Hours

Zambia has recorded 20 new cholera cases in the last 24 hours, with no deaths reported, as transmission continues in several parts of the country.

The cases were reported from Lusaka (11), Nakonde (4), Choma (3), and Mpulungu (2), confirming Choma as a new outbreak area and increasing the number of districts with active cholera transmission to seven.

Minister of Health Elijah Muchima says Lusaka remains the main driver of the outbreak, recording low-level transmission across several sub-districts, while Mpulungu is experiencing a second wave of cases.

He has also expressed concern over seasonal flooding, which has displaced families, disrupted access to safe water, and caused five flood-related deaths in Eastern, Southern, Lusaka, and Central Provinces, raising the risk of waterborne diseases.

The Ministry of Health is monitoring other public health threats, including measles and Mpox.
