Zambia Faces Power Crisis as Kariba Dam Water Levels Drop.

Zambia is experiencing a severe power crisis due to low water levels at the Kariba Dam, the country's main source of hydroelectric power. The dam's water levels have dropped to 12% capacity, forcing the Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO) to implement a stringent load shedding schedule.
According to ZESCO, the power utility company, the low water levels are a result of a prolonged drought that has affected the region. The company has been forced to reduce power generation at the Kariba North Bank Power Station, which supplies over 50% of Zambia's electricity.
Zambia's Energy Minister, Hon. Peter Kapala, has acknowledged the severity of the situation, stating that the government is working to address the power crisis. "We are exploring all options to ensure a stable power supply, including importing power from neighboring countries and increasing generation from thermal power plants," he said.
The power crisis has affected households, businesses, and industries across the country, with many experiencing prolonged power outages. The government has urged citizens to conserve energy and use electricity sparingly to minimize the impact of the load shedding.
According to reports, the government is also working to address the root causes of the power crisis, including investing in renewable energy sources and implementing water conservation measures to ensure the sustainability of the Kariba Dam.
