VILLAGE LIFE

Village life is one interesting life style. For us who know it by experience we have found so fascinating. It’s rich in its valuable and diverse lessons. It inculcates a typical sense of family and good neighborhood. It also brings a sense of solidarity, and oneness. There is gossip and gospel in it, there is love and hatred and sometimes witchcraft.
You will notice a person brought up from a village has special qualities. Qualities of strength and from that ability they can be able to sustain their lives. They are able to do hard tasks and jobs. The other quality is love and belonging. These people have rather strong love and they always want to be in family. And they love brotherhood in the neighborhood.
The other quality is respect; people who have been brought up from the village generally have respect. Respect for parents, elders even children. Mostly no matter how rich they became, they do not forget to take responsibility for their families. These good qualities and many more are obvious and natural especially for people who have grown from village of southern province and I am one of them.
I am very proud to have lived a great deal of years in the village. I lived in Kataba village when I was really young. I lived at Nansenga village [Mwanamainda]. I also lived at Chinga’nga'uka, Nega-nega [kaabo] and Mugoto. And I have gained massive experience of village life and I appreciate it so much.
Sometimes I ask myself what kind of man I could have been, if I never lived in the village. How could I have known how to plough, plant, weed and harvest, how to look after cattle and treat them. Today all those things I learned have become important, they make me strong and ready to face life challenges.
I love village life and I will always live to appreciate it. I hope to once again go back and live in the village permanently. I will just make my home as modern as possible, with all social amenities. Then I will be fulfilled and accomplished. I will be very happy.
