Two Siblings Detained Over Suspected Murder of Cousin
Police in Lusaka have detained two siblings, an 18-year-old male and his 15-year-old sister, in connection with the suspected murder of their 22-year-old cousin, Susan Zulu.
Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi said the case follows a report of Conversion Not Amounting to Theft of a Motor Vehicle made at Kabwata Police Station on September 17, 2026.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the 18-year-old allegedly took his parents’ silver Toyota Axio without their consent and was accompanied by his sister and Susan.
Later that day, the vehicle was involved in a hit and run accident along Zimba Road in Madras, leaving an eight year old pedestrian critically injured and admitted to the University Teaching Hospital.
On September 18, the vehicle was involved in another accident along Lumumba Road, after which the three occupants allegedly abandoned it.
The two siblings returned home on September 21, while Susan remained missing.
Following police interviews on September 22, officers were led to Mungule area in Chibombo District, where members of the public had discovered the body of an unidentified woman a day earlier.
The body was later identified by relatives at the UTH Mortuary as that of Susan Zulu.
Police said the body had visible injuries, raising suspicion that a physical confrontation may have occurred between Susan and the two siblings.
A postmortem examination is expected to determine the cause of death.
The two siblings remain in police custody as investigations continue.
