“Swimming is my hobby, only there aren’t any swimming pools”

“Swimming is my hobby, only there aren’t any swimming pools”..Wilfred, a 21 year old C5 resident and a swimming hobbyistsays that how can he develop his talent, because swimming is not just his pastime, it is also about the only talent that he has. He complained hard on the non-existence of swimming pool facilities anywhere in the area. Well he is not alone in this same unpleasant situation. Unfortunately it seems to be every Zambian’s pickle these days because it has become a luxury only found in proper homes, good hotels, lodges or guest houses. And definitely a luxury most Zambians wouldn’t afford every weekend at all.
But for Wilfred, how is he supposed to become a professional swimmer without having a feel of lots of waters in lots of fine swimming pools? Could he ever fulfill his dream here in Zambia or is it something that he has to bring into adulthood undeveloped or buried deep down in his shameful past of unfulfilled dreams’ locker? The boy, like many others, want to swim and become swimmers but are drawn back by the fact that their kind of dream is very expensive or meant for richer kids. Wilfred always asks his family and friends whether it is right to give up on a dream in situations like this.
He loves Easter and Christmas because those are the only times he gets to go to swim and have fun in water for a few days. It is the time when he goes to spend some time with his uncle in Lusaka. His uncle takes them to some good lodge or guest house where they spend a couple of days as a family. Wilfred says he only likes these moments for the fact that he gets to spend a whole day in water and enjoying himself at it.
