ROAD ACCIDENTS

Road safety is one of our biggest problems in Zambia. It is unbelievable the number of lives we have lost, the number of casualties we have recorded on our roads. Traffic accidents have ravaged the nation and are the order of the day. The question is, are we just going to fold our hands and watch? Watch while innocent ones are injured or die due to the careless and negligent ones. Are we going to watch children die young, drop out of school or became orphaned due to road accidents.Watching things such as ignorance take our precious lives.
Tell me what road safety is and how useless is it? Who should sensitize the public on it and why? Ladies and gentlemen you have known me as a writer. You know me as a hilarious and skilled writer. But this subject I have picked on of road safety goes beyond my writing skills. It’s more than just a topic and I will write on it passionately and emotionally. Do you know how many people have died due to road accidents? Do you know how many have become disabled due to the same? Do you know how many children have become orphaned and dropped out of school due to traffic accidents? How much tears have we dropped to the ground morning our parents, children, relatives and neighbors
Road accidents are too much [alarming] in our country. And the only way we can significantly reduce these accidents is to have a road safety conscious. Every road user must and must be road careful, they must go by road rules and take safety precautions every step in the road. Therefore, that calls for desperate and thorough education on road safety. The problem we have in the country is lack of pragmatism. When carryout campaigns on such great issues the approach we use is wrong and not down to earth.
We take it so lightly and we are too quick to imitate other countries formulas against these problems. We don’t take time to study and analyze those foreign straightedges. We must originate our own practical ways of combating this, and then we can look into foreign ones so we came up with a down to earth formula. Listen the traffic situation rather the traffic accident in America differs from ours.
Thus why you have tried to reduce the problem but it has worsened. The borrowed tactics are not applying well; they don’t make meaning and impact on us. When you teach them to us we don’t understand, they are just like fantasies. The problem [situation] maybe similar but the solutions are unique.There is more i will have to say to bring pragmatism and good sanity and sensitization toward the road accident fight in Zambia.
