The Department of Immigration has apprehended 111 suspected illegal immigrants in separate operations conducted in Vubwi District and Livingstone as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal immigration.

In Vubwi District, a clean-up operation carried out on April 24, 2026, led to the apprehension of 101 suspected illegal immigrants. Those detained include 92 Malawian nationals, five Mozambicans, one Burundian, and three individuals whose nationalities are yet to be determined. Authorities have commenced screening processes to establish their immigration status and determine the appropriate legal action.

In a separate operation in Livingstone, Immigration officers intercepted 10 Somali nationals aged between 19 and 30 years near Mukuni Village after acting on a tip-off. A Zambian national, Nzala Sibajene of Libuyu Compound, was also apprehended for allegedly aiding the group, which was suspected to be in transit to Zimbabwe through the Mukuni gorges. Investigations are ongoing, with another suspect believed to be involved still at large, as authorities urge members of the public to continue reporting immigration-related offences.
