Dhlakama Dies in Mozambique

According to the British Broadcasting Corporation’s Focus on Africa radio programme monitored in Lusaka, Afonso Dhlakama, the long standing opposition leader of the RENAMO Party in Mozambique died aged 65 on Thursday, 3rd May, 2018 in his native country.

The late politician led the guerilla movement RENAMO that for many years waged a guerrilla war against the government of Mozambique of Frelimo Party until they finally signed a peace treaty in October 1992. RENAMO subsequently transformed itself into a legal political party under the continued leadership of Dhlakama.

Dhlakama was born on 1st January, 1953 and has died of suspected heart attack.
