DEC Seizes Over 3 Tonnes of Cannabis in Nationwide Raids

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has seized more than 3 tonnes of cannabis and arrested 12 suspects in a series of targeted operations aimed at dismantling illegal drug activities across Zambia.

‎The seizures are part of DEC’s intelligence-led campaign, code-named “Kufeza,” which targets large-scale cannabis cultivation and trafficking networks in multiple provinces.

‎In Central Province, DEC officers raided Lukombwelo village in Luano District, arresting six individuals and confiscating 1,751.6 kilograms of fresh cannabis, 4.8 kilograms of seeds, and 90 grams of loose cannabis.

‎A coordinated operation in Nkeyema District of Western Province led to the arrest of five suspects and the seizure of 1,478 kilograms of cannabis, DEC deputy spokesperson Theresa Mawere revealed.

‎In Senanga District, one suspect was apprehended in possession of 68.42 kilograms of pre-packaged cannabis ready for distribution.

‎“All suspects are currently in custody and are expected to face court proceedings soon,” Mawere said.

‎She added that the operations represent a major achievement in Zambia’s fight against illegal drugs and urged members of the public to continue providing information.

‎“We call on the public to share credible tips that can help identify and dismantle drug syndicates, protect communities, and promote a drug-free Zambia,” she stated.

‎“The commission remains steadfast in its mandate to combat drug production, trafficking, and abuse across the country,” Mawere concluded.
