Chinika Ward Councillor Masauso Ngoma Commends New Market Development

Chinika Ward Councillor Masauso Ngoma has commended the development of the new Big Mama Market, formerly known as Manyaule Market, saying the facility will help address the shortage of trading spaces in the area.

Councillor Ngoma said the development will also support efforts to move street vendors from the streets into designated trading facilities, while creating more opportunities for residents to access formal trading spaces.

He said some traders who were previously operating in the area had already benefited from the newly developed market, with additional trading spaces expected to be allocated to other eligible marketeers.

Councillor Ngoma expressed gratitude to President Hakainde Hichilema for creating an environment that allows private players to partner with Government in responding to the needs of residents.

He described the facility as a beautiful project and said the local authority would continue supporting similar developments aimed at creating more trading spaces for residents.

“The development is one of the solutions to make sure everyone is given trading spaces and the opening of the market so that we can respond to our people who have been saying that spaces in markets are inadequate,” Councillor Ngoma said.

He said the new market would also complement the Mayor’s call for street vendors to move from the streets into designated trading facilities.

Councillor Ngoma has since urged beneficiaries to take ownership of the facility by protecting it from vandalism and ensuring that the investment is safeguarded for the benefit of the wider community.

“This will be a great market. We urge all those who have benefited to safeguard this facility. Let us not vandalise it. Let us protect the investment,” he said.
