Body needs 3 litres water daily

The Institute of Medicine says men and women should drink 3 and 2.2 litres of water per day respectively.
The Mayo clinic site www.mayoclinic.org quotes the institute as saying men and women need to take 13 and 9 cups of water per day respectively.
The site says every day the human body loses water through breath, perspiration, urine and bowel movements.
“For your body to function properly you must replenish its water supply…” the journal says.
The site says advice which most people have heard is about taking 8 glasses of water per day, which is called the ‘8 by 8 rule’.
It says even mild dehydration can drain energy and make the individual tired and that every body system depends on water.
“…water flushes out toxins out of vital organs, carries nutrients to your cells, and provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues,” the site says.
