ambition

Don’t you remember this question your teacher asked you when you were a little- tinny child. He/ she asked you,’’ what would you like to be when you grow up? They teacher avoided using the word ambition because you were too young to understand it. And remember how you mention these big-big careers, in your small voices you would say I want to be a doctor, a nurse, engineer, lawyer, soldier, only few mentioned teaching and police. If you remember very well careers such as carpentry, plumbing, business, fishing and many others were not said. Even the least clever in class, I mean the dullest but you know this word ‘dull should be used on colors not on pupils. It is very demeaning so let me say; even the slowest leaner in class didn’t mention these.
And the teacher encouraged you to work hard, he/she acted as though truly the whole class will be lawyers, doctors, nurses, engineers, soldiers and other high profile careers yet they knew it wouldn’t. Along the way many things happened didn’t they, they were successes and failures, trumps and disasters, setbacks and upsets. Some went through the journey of school smoothly, some gave up before completion, some persevered to completion, some diverted due to circumstances, some failed the exams and some passed. But to sum it all, take a look at yourself and your classmates. Just a handful has become what they said. Some who wanted to be doctors are now office orderlies in doctor’ offices, others who wished to be layers are plumbers, some who wished to be soldiers are now pastors, or fishermen/ fisher women and vice-visa.
You will find out that for little ones they mention these big careers for prestige and perception of good salaries other than passion. But as they glow some discover that these things are actually their calling. Some discover they would still make those big monies by other means and carrier’s. Some crush into barriers that kill those dreams. Yet everyone at least desires to live a good live and afford many things.
