Tambatamba Demands End to Casualization, Warns Firms to Uphold Labour Laws

Labour and Social Security Minister Brenda Tambatamba has called on companies to end the practice of casualization and fully comply with labour laws to protect workers’ rights and support the government’s economic growth agenda.

Speaking during a tour of Pembe Milling Limited in Lusaka, Ms. Tambatamba said industries must operate within the law by giving employees proper contracts and ensuring that all workers are registered with statutory bodies such as the National Health Insurance Management Authority (NHIMA) and the National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA).

She emphasized that no employee should be excluded from legal protections based on tenure and urged employers to prioritize decent work standards.

Pembe Milling Human Resource Manager, Amy Mwape, said the company currently employs more than 400 workers.

Meanwhile, Labour Commissioner Given Mutengwa stressed the importance of unionization, cautioning that employees without elected representatives risk being denied their rights.
