National Alumni Association For Secondary Schools In Zambia Unveiled

Lusaka, Zambia — The Interim Leadership of the newly formed National Alumni Association for Secondary Schools in Zambia (NAASSZ) has officially unveiled its vision to transform the education sector through unity, mentorship, and resource mobilization.

Speaking during a press briefing at Pamodzi Hotel in Lusaka, Interim President Mr. Moffat Nsofwa described the initiative as a landmark step towards addressing challenges faced by secondary schools across the country.

> “This Association is born out of shared memories and a deep sense of responsibility. It is a call to unity, service, and action. We cannot sit comfortably while our former schools are in disrepair, learners lack resources, and our youth are derailed by drugs, unemployment, and hopelessness. Through this association, we are saying it is time to give back meaningfully,” Mr. Nsofwa said.

The Association will serve as a coordinating platform for alumni groups nationwide, with a mission to:

Improve educational infrastructure.

Establish mentorship and career guidance programs.

Mobilize resources for sustainable school development projects.

Support community initiatives addressing social challenges such as drug abuse and unemployment.

Mr. Nsofwa emphasized that the Association is non-political and purely purpose-driven, focusing on building bridges between past students and current learners.

The interim executive team announced includes:

President: Mr. Moffat Nsofwa

Secretary General: Mr. Danny Musenge

Deputy Secretary General: Dr. Allan Tembo

Communications Chairperson: Ms. Teresa Chanda

Marketing Chairperson: Eng. Ronald Chiwele

The team will oversee stakeholder engagements, registration, and the convening of the first Annual General Meeting (AGM), where a permanent executive committee will be democratically elected and a constitution ratified.

Speaking after his appointment, Eng. Ronald Chiwele, the interim Marketing and Communications Chairperson, pledged to strengthen engagement and communication within the alumni network.

> “This meeting is about vision, collaboration, and building a legacy that we will leave for the next generation. We must leverage our collective strengths to give back to our schools, our communities, and our nation,” Eng. Chiwele said.

The Association further pledged to initiate alumni-driven scholarships, bursaries, mentorship programs, and health and cultural support activities aimed at improving learner well-being.

The press briefing was attended by alumni representatives, education stakeholders, and members of the media, marking what Mr. Nsofwa called “the beginning of a united alumni movement in Zambia.”
