23-Year-Old Shot by Nephew in Kafue with Homemade Firearm

A 23-year-old man identified as Joseph Sikaonga of Garden Compound, Lusaka, was accidentally shot in the shoulder by his nephew during a trip to Kafue.
Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga confirmed that the suspect, Pearson Kalengo, also 23 and of Mtendere Compound, Lusaka, is in custody for the unlawful discharge of a homemade, unlicensed firearm.
Mr Hamoonga explains that the shooting occurred when Kalengo attempted to demonstrate how the weapon works, leading to an accidental discharge.
He says police recovered the firearm, one round of ammunition, and an empty cartridge as evidence.
Mr Hamoonga adds that the victim is in stable condition at Kafue District Hospital, and investigations are ongoing.
