23-Year-Old Shot by Nephew in Kafue with Homemade Firearm

A 23-year-old man identified as Joseph Sikaonga of Garden Compound, Lusaka, was accidentally shot in the shoulder by his nephew during a trip to Kafue.

‎Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga confirmed that the suspect, Pearson Kalengo, also 23 and of Mtendere Compound, Lusaka, is in custody for the unlawful discharge of a homemade, unlicensed firearm.

‎Mr Hamoonga explains that the shooting occurred when Kalengo attempted to demonstrate how the weapon works, leading to an accidental discharge.

‎He says police recovered the firearm, one round of ammunition, and an empty cartridge as evidence.

‎Mr Hamoonga adds that the victim is in stable condition at Kafue District Hospital, and investigations are ongoing.
