Two Arrested In Mtendere Juvenile Abuse Case, Two Others On The Run

LUSAKA | April 2, 2025 – The Zambia Police Service has arrested two young men in connection with a disturbing case of child abuse reported in Mtendere East compound, Lusaka.
The case, involving a 5-year-old girl, was reported on March 19, 2025, following an alleged incident that occurred a week earlier, on March 12. Police have confirmed the arrest of 21-year-old William Phiri and 19-year-old Gift Mweemba, both of Mtendere East. The two have since been jointly charged with an offence under Section 155 of the Penal Code, which deals with crimes of an unnatural nature.
Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga, in a statement issued on April 2, 2025, said that law enforcement is still pursuing two additional suspects who remain at large. The police are calling on members of the public to come forward with any information that may assist in the apprehension of the remaining suspects.
Mr. Hamoonga reaffirmed the Zambia Police Service’s commitment to ensuring that justice is served and that the safety of children remains a top priority.
