Tourism Ministry Cautions Against Unlawful Trade Of Pangolin.
Ministry of Tourism principal oubic relations officer, Nelly Banda revealed that from January 2024 to December 2025,DNPW recorded 154 pangolin related arrests leading to the recovery of 65 live pangolin, eight(8) dead pangolins and 14 pangolin skins.
Ms Banda said the statistics shows the gravity of wildlife crime and the escalating risk to Zambia biodiversity.
Banda has also warned members of the public to cease participating in the capture,possession,sale,purchase, transportation or export of pangolins including scales,meat ,skins and nails.
"The Ministry is concerned that individuals from all sectors of society, including rural communities are increasingly being targeted and used by criminal networks to engage in illegal wildlife activities, "she explained.
She also cautioned against disturb of pangolins found in their natural habitats in National parks,Game management areas and forest reserves.
"In line with section 130(1) of the Zambia wildlife life Act No.14 of 2025 ,any person found guilty of dealing in protected wildlife species is liable, upon conviction, to imprisonment for not less than five (5) years not exceeding ten (10) years without the option of a fine,"She said .
Banda further warned against collecting pangolins or their products for sale,traditional medicine or any other purpose and that the public should report any person requesting assistance to locate or trade pangolins to the nearest DNPW or police station.
Additionally she said pangolins must be handed over to the nearest DNPW office within 24 hours incase it is rescued in order to save it.
"The Ministry reaffirms its commitment in protecting Zambia 's wildlife heritage and promoting sustainable tourism. Pangolins play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance and their survival is essential for future generations, "She said.
Ms Banda has urged members of the public to work closely with government and law enforcement agencies, in protecting wildlife and reporting illegal wildlife trade .
