PRESIDENT HICHILEMA CALLS FOR UNITY, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENSHIP
Hakainde Hichilema has called for unity, responsible citizenship and strict adherence to Zambia’s constitutional values as the country advances its development agenda.
Delivering a national address, President Hichilema reaffirmed that the national values and principles outlined in Article 8 of the Constitution remain the foundation for governance and policy implementation.
“Our national values and principles are not mere words in the Constitution; they are the foundation upon which we must build our governance and our future,” the President said.
The Head of State highlighted progress in addressing social challenges such as drug abuse, teenage pregnancies, child marriages and gender-based violence through initiatives including free education, skills training and nationwide sensitisation programmes. He stressed that sustaining these services depends on effective revenue collection and urged citizens to fulfil their tax obligations.
President Hichilema further declared that no one is above the law and warned against political violence and lawlessness, reiterating government’s commitment to unity in diversity under the principle of One Zambia, One Nation, One People.
Addressing recent electricity shortages, the President apologised to citizens for the hardships experienced and thanked them for their patience.
“There is no one above the law, and there is no room for political violence in our country,” he said.
He added that reforms in the energy sector, alongside climate change adaptation and environmental protection measures, are underway, calling on all Zambians to work together in building a peaceful and prosperous nation.
