LITUNGA, MALAWI BACK HH RE-ELECTION.

In a congratulatory statement, President Mutharika said he and the First Lady extended their heartfelt congratulations to President Hichilema, describing his victory as a clear reflection of the confidence Zambians have placed in his leadership and their trust in his vision for the country’s continued progress, peace and prosperity.

“The First Lady and I extend our heartfelt congratulations to my brother, His Excellency Hakainde Hichilema, President-elect of the Republic of Zambia, on the occasion of his re-election in last week’s general election,” Professor Mutharika said.

He wished President-elect Hichilema every success as he embarked on his renewed mandate, saying Malawi looked forward to strengthening the bonds of friendship and co-operation between the two neighbouring countries.

Meanwhile, Litunga Lubosi Imwiko II, the Kuta and the people of Barotseland have also expressed delight over the election outcome.

In a separate congratulatory message, Ngambela Manyando Mukela said the BRE was pleased to convey its joy following President Hichilema’s “resounding victory” in the just-ended general election.

“The Barotse Royal Establishment is greatly delighted to convey the joy of His Majesty the Litunga Lubosi Imwiko II, of the Kuta and of the people of Barotseland following your resounding victory in the just-ended general elections,” he said.

Mr Mukela said the BRE was willing to work with President Hichilema and his administration as he leads the country during the next five years.

He said the royal establishment expected Government to construct residential palaces for traditional leaders in the region.

“We envision for our region the following development areas, among others: construction of chief’s residences and stepped up road infrastructure development, including the construction and improvement of feeder roads,” Mr Mukela said.

He said the BRE also wanted Government to improve education services, particularly through the provision of more boarding schools and expanded access to tertiary education.
