The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has allocated K1,250,000 towards the construction of a new recreation centre in Matero Constituency. The initiative, funded under the 2023 Constituency Development Fund (CDF), is set to be completed within four months and will be located in Ward 32.
At a site handover ceremony held at Kasamba Primary School, local leaders underscored the importance of the project in transforming the community. They said the centre would not only provide a venue for sports and leisure, but also serve as a hub for learning, mentorship, and social development.
Matero Member of Parliament Miles Sampa said the recreation centre would play a crucial role in equipping young people with practical skills. He highlighted the facility’s potential to serve as a strategic tool in reducing crime by keeping youth meaningfully engaged.
Ward 32 Councillor Annie Chinyanta also welcomed the development, noting its potential to improve lives and foster greater community involvement. She called on residents to support the initiative and participate in ensuring its long-term sustainability.
The civic leaders described the recreation centre as a milestone investment in the social infrastructure of Matero, aimed at building a stronger and more connected community. They said such projects were key to promoting inclusive development across Lusaka’s constituencies.
With construction now underway, the LCC has pledged close monitoring of the project to ensure it meets its objectives within the set timeframe. The facility is expected to open new opportunities for youth and contribute to long-term social and economic benefits in the area.
