CCZ Urges Churches To Use Music To Empower Youths

The Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) has urged churches to harness the power of music in empowering young people, promoting evangelism and encouraging positive social transformation. The Council said music should be used not only for entertainment but also as a tool for nurturing talent, promoting discipline, strengthening Christian unity and steering young people away from illicit activities.

The call was made during the “One Sound, One Saviour” Inter-Church Brass Band Fundraising Festival organised by the Kimbanguist Church in Lusaka on October 31, 2026. Representing CCZ at the event, Assistant National Youth Coordinator Bernard Luoma commended the initiative for providing young people with a platform to discover and develop their talents while strengthening Christian fellowship.

Mr Luoma said the festival, held under the theme “Using Music to Glorify God and Keep Youths Away from Illicit Activities,” demonstrated the important role churches could play in shaping the spiritual, moral and social development of young people.

“Music is not merely a form of entertainment, but a powerful instrument for evangelism, unity, discipline and positive social transformation,” he said.

He further encouraged churches to create more opportunities for young people to develop their abilities and channel their energies into productive activities that contribute to community development. He noted that initiatives such as the brass band festival could promote Christian values, strengthen collaboration among churches and inspire positive behavioural change.

Drawing inspiration from Psalm 150:3, which encourages believers to praise God with the sound of the trumpet, Mr Luoma expressed hope that the performances would continue to inspire unity, hope and positive change beyond the festival.

Meanwhile, CCZ commended the Kimbanguist Church for organising the event and bringing together different denominations in a shared effort to nurture young people's talents. The Council encouraged churches to continue investing in youth-centred initiatives that promote spiritual growth, responsible citizenship and meaningful participation in national development.
